Shopping at certain locations in Phangngaa Province may be very convenient: No problems to find a parking lot, no crowded department stores, no tourist prices. |
| Our three favorite locations: * Ban (village) Khok Kloi, * Phangngaa Town, * Panyi Island (Koh Panyee). |
| Take H 402 northbound, pass Sarasin Bridge, proceed to Ban Khok Kloi. Driving time takes about half an hour. Some kilometers south of Ban Khok Kloi keep left, do not enter bypass road to Krabi. Proceed to intersection at Ban Khok Kloi, pass it straight ahead and park your car. You now see 2 buildings of banks (Bangkok Bank's and Thai Farmers' Bank's) and in the rear of banks' buildings the premise of a wat. That is the place of villagers' market. Take a stroll, enjoy the atmosphere: People are polite and friendly, nobody urges you to buy something, children do not beg for money. Hungry or thirsty? No problem! Everything you want is available. Restrooms? Bangkok Bank! |

Do you want to see more of Thai life? Proceed to Phangngaa Town. [Interested in visiting Wat Suvan Kuha? Get information at excursion"Phangngaa Province II".] Phangngaa Town offers a wide range of public and private services. Today we do not look for museums or hospitals, authorities or temples, caves or orchid gardens, but for shopping facilities. Pass main road slowly until you see the local market on the right. Phangngaa's villagers' market offers more clothing and more food and fruit than Khok Kloi's market does. Wander through the lanes and join life of local people. It is the same peaceful atmosphere like at Ban Khok Kloi, and the prices are made for local people, not for farangs. Did not yet find the right clothing or gift? Proceed to the department store nearby. |
| Not enough shopping enjoyment? Want to go to another location and admire a great landscape? Panyi Island! How to go there? By long tail boat departing at Phangngaa Bay. |

Go back on H 4 direction Phuket until intersection H 4144. Turn left and follow the road until its end. You must not look for a boatman, the agents look for you! It is a good idea to hire a boat for only 2½ hours and not to go until James Bond Island (situated in the south of Panyi Island and overcrowded by tourists. Save 200 Baht entrance fee per person). In the case of avoiding to visit James Bond Island, the price for boat rental should be about 1000 Baht plus a tip. |

Going around by long tail boat you will admire the great landscape with its mangrove swamps, its picturesque limestone rocks, its caves and cave paintings. |

Have a stop at Panyi Island for lunch and shopping. Panyi Island is not a real island, but an artificial one made of empty oil barrels, wooden beams and foamed material. People live on seafood hatchery and touristic service. They own a mosque, offer some restaurants, and shops, shops, shops ... |

Take up the time for a lunch of fresh seafood, for taking colored pictures, for shopping and for dealing. They have no fixed prices and have fun on dealing with you. If you do not meet your boatman at the time you want going back: Don't care! He did not escape (of course you should not pay him in advance!). He has lunch too, is chatting with friends or visiting a barber shop. Tell any other boatman your wish to depart and your boatman will emerge soon. |
